CompUSA and a $269 Empty Box

On Terry Heaton’s blog he outlines an encounter with CompUSA in which he purchased (he thought) a Canon digital camera for his step-daughter. When the time came to give her the present, they discovered that he had not bought a cool new digital camera… Instead, he had bought a $270 empty box.

On one hand, I can see where it may  be difficult on CompUSA’s part to tell whether or not they’re getting scammed… I mean, I could go buy anything, take it out of the box, and return an empty box. But seriously–considering everything else he purchased that day (over $3000 worth of merchandise,) I would think they could refund or exchange the camera to ensure a satisfied (and previously loyal) customer.

Any thoughts?
